We host social and educational events for seniors across Miami-Dade, and we help people apply for the Medicare and Medicaid benefits they're entitled to — at no cost. As a community partner with ACCESS Florida, we guide seniors through the paperwork so they don't have to do it alone.

We also team up with local organizations, like home healthcare companies, to help seniors apply for Long-Term Care (LTC) Medicaid coverage.

The Golden Years is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving seniors across Miami-Dade County. We believe growing older shouldn't mean growing isolated, or losing access to the benefits you've earned.

Our work has two sides. We bring seniors together through social and educational events — bingo nights, holiday parties, and seminars on topics like Medicare. And, as an ACCESS Florida community partner, we help seniors apply for Medicaid and Medicare Savings Programs, at no cost.

We also partner with local organizations — including home healthcare companies — to help seniors apply for Long-Term Care Medicaid coverage when they need a higher level of support.

Medicare Savings Program

Help paying your Medicare costs may be closer than you think.

Florida's Medicare Savings Programs (MSP) can pay your Medicare Part B premium — and sometimes deductibles and copays too. As an ACCESS Florida community partner, The Golden Years helps seniors check their eligibility and apply, at no cost.

What is the Medicare Savings Program?

MSP is a group of Florida programs, administered by the Department of Children and Families (DCF), that help people with limited income pay for Medicare. There are four programs: QMB, SLMB, QI, and QDWI. Each has its own income limits and covers different costs.

If you qualify for QMB, SLMB, or QI, you also automatically qualify for Extra Help — federal assistance that can lower your Medicare Part D prescription drug costs, with no separate application needed.

The four programs

QMB — Qualified Medicare Beneficiary

Most comprehensive

Individual: up to $1,330/mo · Couple: up to $1,803/mo

Covers Part A and Part B premiums, deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. Also qualifies you automatically for Extra Help.

SLMB — Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary

Individual: up to $1,596/mo · Couple: up to $2,164/mo

Covers your Part B premium — around $2,220 a year in savings. Also qualifies you automatically for Extra Help.

QI — Qualified Individual

Individual: up to $1,796/mo · Couple: up to $2,435/mo

Also covers your Part B premium. Funding is limited, so you'll need to reapply each year.

QDWI — Qualified Disabled and Working Individual

Individual: up to $2,660/mo · Couple: up to $3,607/mo

For people with disabilities who returned to work. Covers only the Part A premium; doesn't include Extra Help.

Most assets are excluded from these limits, including your home and a car. Income and asset limits are set by the state and change each year — the numbers above are current guidelines. We'll help you confirm exactly where you stand.

What does "ACCESS community partner" mean?

ACCESS Florida is the state's system for applying to public assistance programs, including Medicaid and the Medicare Savings Programs. As a certified ACCESS community partner, The Golden Years is trained to help seniors complete and submit their ACCESS Florida applications correctly — in person, not just over the phone or online alone.
